Nanny salary

What is the salary for live-out nannies?

Salaries will depend upon qualifications, experience and responsibilities of the nanny and will range between £8-10 net per hour. Please note that each nanny position and responsibilities involved is individual and these are only the guide minimums. Usually, the full-time nanny is working for 10-12 hours per day. Live-out nanny works 5 days a week with 2 days off.

If the family require proxy parenting (when the parents are away and need the 24 hours cover) it should  be agreed beforehand.

According to the current market rates the nanny salary is between £400 - £500+ net per week.

What is the salary for live-in nannies?

Salaries for live-in experienced nannies are between £300-400 + per week net. The salary depends upon nanny experience, qualification and working hours and individually negotiated for each position. The family provides nanny a full-board: a separate accommodation and food. Live-in nanny works 5 days a week, up to 12 hours with 2 days off.

Nannies who work 24 hours for 5-6 days a week, usually receive salary between £500 - £600+ net per week.

Live-in nannies can also accompany the family abroad, the salary may need to be adjusted if the nanny works more than the usual hours.

Live-in nannies with less experience who work less hours usually earn around £250 - £300 net per week.

Bilingual Governesses

Experienced governesses salaries depend on experience, between £10 - £12 net per hour in the UK or £500+ net per week. While abroad the salary is between £600 - £1200 net per week.

Part-time/Weekend Nannies

Part-time nannies usually earn between £9 - £12 net per hour. Usually they work between 10 - 12 hours per day and they might work between 2 and 4 days per week. Weekend nanny might cover 24 hours as a live-in. Part-time nannies often expect the travel expenses to be covered by the family, however this is negotiable with the nanny.

Temporary Nannies

Nanny counts as temporary when she works up to 12 weeks. In London temporary nanny usually earns between £10 - £12 net per hour and can travel with the family abroad. Temporary nanny who is required to work 24 hours earns £120 - £130 net per day, depending on the experience and responsibilities.

Maternity Nurse

Maternity nurse usually works for 24 hours, 6 days per week and stay with the family for about up to 12 weeks. Maternity nurse supports mother and the baby for the first weeks. Maternity nurse earns between £130 - £140 gross per day, please note that maternity nurses are self-employed and are responsible for their own tax and national insurance contributions.

Tax and National Insurance Contribution
